About

Hi, and thanks for visiting. :)
My name is Modupe Oloruntoba, I’m Nigerian, I’m 19 and I’m a fashion design student at Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town, South Africa. I live with my older sister and our new roommate, Pearl. I am a Christian, and I’m part of the RUCC Ministries Table View family. My dad is a surgeon, and my mom is an office manager/entrepreneur.
Now that the boring stuff is out of the way,
I knew for a very long time that I wanted to design and create, but for most of that time, I couldn’t decide which discipline I would take up. [I very nearly settled on interior design.] I went with fashion for one simple reason: it was the only one I never got bored with.
I created this blog (and the 2 attempts before this one) to document and share my experiences as a fashion student, my inspirations, my personal style journey, and my thoughts on international fashion wherever and whenever I find it. Also, because I thought ‘if everyone else can do it, why can’t I?’ I’m stubborn like that.
I am a part of the SCREAM Art Expo organizing team, a project started by a friend of mine to gather exposure and support for visual and performance artists and designers based in the Eastern Cape. I am also the copy editor for All Things Fashion Africa, my older sister’s African fashion website, created to show the world the high fashion, sophisticated, not-covered-in-stereotypical-prints side of African fashion. The launch is on the 1st of February 2012; the first episode of the show will air at www.allthingsfashionafrica.com (exciting!).
Capes of Compassion is a community project I plan to start this year, that will encourage the public to make and donate outerwear for the destitute in the Cape Town area. We might even throw in a fashion show if our designer collaboration idea works out!
Random Facts:
I’m a junior spelling champ. I was such a teacher’s pet.
I love my eyes; they’re my favorite personal physical feature.
I love yams, plantain, and suya. The Nigerian girls reading this will know what I’m talking about. :)
I wish I could play the guitar, but I won’t start anytime soon. My older sister and my younger sister are both learning. Bah.
I am a recovered impulse costume jewelry buyer.
Working as an intern from 9am to 12am for 6 days straight at Cape Town Fashion Week Spring Summer 2011/12 was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
I look up international fashion design student contests when I’m bored. Can anyone say overachiever? I can! :)
I’ve chickened out of both contacts and highlights. I’m not really scared; I just keep putting them off for some reason…
My hair is only shoulder length, but it’s so thick that it takes 5-12 hours to braid (depending on how many people are working on it at once).
I get bored with scents really quickly, so I love 30ml bottles and sample bottles.
I love to write songs and sing, and if I can manage it time wise, I think I’ll start a youtube channel. Don’t worry, I’m actually kind of good at it.
I love Thursdays. They’re awesome!
I have to remind myself to accessorize. Bad fashionista. :)
