Curse of the Trendbots

Street style has a problem. Trendbots are the problem. Designer to marketer: Take these clothes, which I designed to make people feel beautiful, and sell them. I don't have time to tell you how; I'm much too busy being a creative soul.
Marketer to public: this designer, whom you absolutely adore, says you're not beautiful without these clothes. Buy them. Buy them now.
How misconstrued. But get this: some people actually fall for it. See, these people view the fashion industry as 'She who must be obeyed'. Thus, they lose any personality they possessed and forget the meaning of individual style - they become trendbots, voluntary slaves who hang on the industry's every word and reply, "Yes ma'am," without a second thought. Of course, I'm not referring to you. You're no trendbot. You are, after all, reading Kas a lá jellybean. [Nuff said.] You know you were born to stand out, so you're not going to waste your time trying to look like everyone else. You've got way too much personality to look that robotic anyway. But... on the off-chance that there is in fact a trendbot reading this blog, I suggest that he or she takes this advice:
1. Think about who you are, not who you're trying to be, and fully become that person. Trust me, it's a much happier place to be than where you are now.
2. Shop (yay!) for things that scream out at you because they're stylish, and because they're YOUR style, not someone else's. Gathering information and inspiration is cool, as long as you're not blindly copying styles that just were not designed with you in mind. Wear up-to-date trends, just make sure to wear them your way.
3. Put them on and smile, because no one wears 'you' like you do. As some smart person once said, "Be yourself - everyone else is already taken."
